Dayton Alumni History

The Dayton Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc was chartered on December 17, 1946. Charter members were Brothers William McLoud- Polemarch, Joseph Robinson, Lewis Daniel, Howard Dungy, Albert Hearld, John Holland, Richard James, Lloyd Lewis, Jr., and Arthur Clark. The Chapter has lived up to the fundamental purpose of Kappa Alpha Psi which is to promote achievement.

The Dayton Alumni Chapter has among its leadership: Administrators, Business Leaders, Attorneys, Educators, and Civil Servants, all exemplifying achievement.
In recognition of this Chapter’s Accomplishments, The Grand Board of Directors of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. in 1983 bestowed the first ever Paul W. Caine Outstanding Alumni Chapter Award.

Achievement and leadership has always been the standard for all Brothers of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity. The Dayton Alumni Chapter is proud to have two members who have exceeded the highest standard both on the local and national levels. Their tireless commitment to the fraternity was recognized with the Elder Watson Diggs award which is the second highest award given to Brothers in Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity. These 1982 and 2005 Awardees are the late Jay Crosby, Past National Guide Right Chairman and Calvin D. Heard, Past East Central Province Polemarch. In addition, Brother Crosby has the distinction of having the Kappa Alpha Psi National Guide Right award named in his honor.

The Dayton Alumni, Kappa Alpha Psi Foundation Inc., was established in the spring of 1998 by members the  of the Dayton Alumni Chapter for the purpose of providing a tax-exempt source of funding for the youth and scholarship programs. It is our stated Mission to support and foster the Kappa Youth Leadership and Development League (the Kappa League), the Irving S. Moses, Sr., Scholarship Program and all future youth oriented programs of the Dayton Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. In 2004 the Dayton Alumni Chapter presented the architect and now Chairman Emeritus of the Dayton Alumni Kappa Alpha Psi Foundation Inc., I. Victor Yancey with The Man of the Year Award for his never-ending service to the community and the Fraternity.

In 1999 the dream of having a permanent home for the Dayton Alumni Chapter finally came to fruition. This major accomplishment was inspired by the late Charter member Brother Joseph H. Robinson, under the leadership of Polemarch Kevin E. Jackson, and the financial support of Brothers Edward Thomas and Gary Persons. The house is located at 2725 West Third Street in Dayton, Ohio. The house is named The Joseph H. Robinson Memorial Kappa House in honor of Brother Robinson.  With pride the Joseph H. Robinson Memorial Kappa House offers community support and provides a special place for Kappa Brothers to maintain a fraternal bond.

In this our 64th year of existence, the Dayton Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. has remained and always will be the preeminent organization in the Dayton Area.
